HOMEOWNERS SPEAK ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH HABITAT.

A Brush with Kindness Program Launches this Summer

Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce a new community outreach program “A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS”

A Brush with Kindness is a program that brings together volunteers and low income homeowners to help restore their homes so they can continue to live in a safe, decent and affordable home. The cost of keeping up a home is growing faster than many families’ incomes. After years of deferred maintenance, homes fall into disrepair. This can lead to a downward spiral of code citations, loss of homeowners insurance and ultimately in mortgage foreclosure that impact not only individual homeowners, but entire neighborhoods.

By mobilizing volunteers in meaningful community effort, homeowners have the opportunity to experience a stronger neighborhood and improve their quality of life. Volunteers have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of others as well as to build teamwork among coworkers, friends and family. Communities are revitalized through the investment of time and resources in the refurbishment of these homes.

Prescott Area Habitat plans to launch this new program in the Dexter school district. As the program progresses, it will be expanded to other neighborhoods.

This program will focus on painting, landscaping and minor exterior repairs. For a homeowner to be involved, the home must be owner occupied. Residents combined household income must be under $37,500. The home must not be sold for a minimum of two years. and the homeowner must also sign agreements to pledge financial assistance to future homeowners at the time of sale or refinance. All able bodied homeowners must work alongside the volunteers. Priority will be given to seniors, disabled and single parent households.

Program set to launch July 2008.
